Turns out, pinewood is fine. With some reservation : The wood is somewhat fibrous, fragile, one needs to be cautious. Cutting against the fibers is risky. The fact my block wasn’t planned made it a bit more complicated to ink. I feared my press would break it in two. In the end, I had more luck with a felt baren.
I’ll keep using pine, as it’s readily available for now, but I’m considering getting checkerberry planks to try soon.
